THE ROAD

TO FRANCE

The Scandinavians finished first in European zone Group 4. A surprise defeat to Ukraine (1-0) could have cost Sweden dearly, but in decisive contests against neighbours Denmark, the Swedes claimed maximum points, which included a 3-0 forfeit result at home, to ensure they won the group in comfortable fashion.

THE COACH

Peter Gerhardsson

The former U-17, U-19 and U-23 international took over the women's senior national team in 2017. He gained his first experience in women's football at Bälinge IF in 1997/98. He then coached Sweden's U-16 and U-17 men's national teams, worked as assistant coach at Enköping and Helsingborg, and was head coach of BK Häken for seven years.

THE STAR

Stina Blackstenius

Blackstenius is a powerful, fast and agile striker with a strong shot. With Lotta Schelin having retired, and Caroline Seger afflicted by injuries, Blackstenius emerged as a significant player for Sweden during qualifying for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2019, scoring three times in seven appearances.
