THE ROAD

TO FRANCE

La Squadra Azzurra booked their ticket to France 2019 with a match to spare, after recording 7 wins in as many matches to top Group 6 of the European qualifiers from Belgium. Their only defeat of the campaign came against the Belgians on the final matchday, a loss that had no bearing on the outcome of the group.

THE COACH

Milena Bertolini

Former central defender Milena Bertolini spent 15 years in the Italian top flight. On moving into coaching, she enjoyed spells with Verona, Reggiana and Brescia before taking charge of her national team in August 2017 and leading them back to the Women's World Cup after a 20-year absence.

THE STAR

Barbara Bonansea

Following Melania Gabbiadini’s retirement from international football in the wake of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017, Bonansea has become Italy’s standout player. Impossible to contain down her flank for both club and country, the Juventus star made a big contribution to Italy’s run to France 2019.
