THE ROAD

TO FRANCE

Reaching the semi-finals of their last two major tournaments, England went into qualifying full of confidence and it showed. Averaging over three goals a game, and conceding just once, they still had to see off close competition from neighbours Wales. A 3-0 victory across the border saw them progress with a match to spare.

THE COACH

Phil Neville

A veteran of three European Championships as a player, Neville will be taking part in his first-ever World Cup in what is his first permanent managerial role. Having picked up the baton in January 2018, the former Manchester United utility player, and later member of the coaching staff, steered England into the finals with relative ease.

THE STAR

Fran Kirby

Diminutive, explosive, creative and incisive, Kirby has truly made a name for herself, having terrorised defenders since her breakthrough aged 19. She played a vital role on the road to France, with a hand in seven strikes (2 goals herself, 5 assists) in qualifying. France 2019 will be her second step on to the global stage after Canada 2015.
