USA - Argentina / Copa America Centenario / 21 June 2016:
Among the myriad skills that Lionel Messi has perfected, free-kicks are perhaps one not often heralded. However, they are a weapon in his armoury that is proof beyond doubt that the Argentinian’s talent is the product of hundreds of hours of hard work and practice. This particular effort was a 25-yard stunner, taken from the left of the penalty area, hit towards the side in which the goalkeeper, Brad Guzan was standing. The effort was centimetre-perfect, meaning the USA stopper’s dive to keep it out was in vain. With the goal, Messi moved past Gabriel Batistuta as his country’s leading goalscorer.
