Reigning European champions Real Madrid booked their place in the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League final with a 4-2 aggregate victory over local rivals Atletico Madrid.

Determined to overturn the three-goal deficit from the first leg, Saul Niguez and Antoine Griezmann dramatically bagged two goals in four minutes for the hosts, seeing galvanised Atleti lead 2-0 after just 16 minutes. Under pressure, Real Madrid weathered the storm and they were soon given some breathing space when Isco grabbed an away goal on 42 minutes, pouncing on Toni Kroos’ rebounded effort.

Despite the 2-1 loss, it was enough for Real to set up a final-two meeting with Italian kings Juventus at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium in June. It will be Los Blancos’ third Champions League final in four seasons.
