34 days to go: Mexican goal-machine Chicharito

It only took Chicharito 34 minutes to open his account on his debut Confederations Cup campaign in 2013, when he assuredly converted a penalty won by Giovani Dos Santos in the opening group-stage match against Italy.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to take points off the Azzurri, as Mexico ended up on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline. El Tri faced host nation Brazil in their next game and lost 2-0, ruling out qualification to the knockout stage. Nevertheless, Mexico managed to leave on a high after a 2-1 win over Japan in their last match. Chicharito got both goals in that fixture, meaning he scored all his country’s goals at the 2013 Confederations Cup.

It is entirely possible that the diminutive striker will arrive in Russia this summer, as his country's leading goalscorer. The 28-year-old currently has 46 goals, level with Santos Laguna legend Jared Borgetti, but could add to that tally during the friendlies Mexico will play before the Confederations Cup gets underway.
